On 1st July 2016, Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and STELOP proudly received the prestigious IES-SG50 Award from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for our Infrared Fever Screening System (IFSS).
During the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in March 2003, DSTA and STELOP Engineers worked tirelessly together to develop our award winning product. Developing IFSS involves multidisciplinary understanding of several fields such as electro-optics, applied statistics and human physiology. Developing such a complex product within a tight timeline, was a great achievement for both DSTA and STELOP. Designed to detect persons with suspected fever in a non-intrusive manner, till date IFSS has been used globally to screen travelers who may be suspected of infectious diseases such as H1N1 and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
Organized by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), Engineering Feats @ IES-SG50 is a national competition which aims to recognize the top 50 engineering achievements across the various fields of engineering deemed to have made the greatest economic, infrastructural or societal impact to Singapore. The selection was based on the highest number of votes received from the public out of 113 shortlisted projects and winners were recognized at the IES Golden Jubilee Dinner held at Ritz Carlton Millenia Hotel.
As Singapore celebrates its Golden Jubilee, STELOP’s “Super Cameras” provided safety surveillance of the entire Marina Bay Area for the protection of the estimated crowd of over 20,000 people!
Our Mini and Micro, ‘all in one’ turrets provided a clear view of the entire bay area from the top of The Float @ Marina Bay. Multi-sensors in each turret provided full wide angle general surveillance, with zoom in specific surveillance capability, working from broad daylight as the crowd gathers till the celebration of fireworks late into the night. From the Aerial Display high up in the sky, to the Mobile Column some distance away, to the crowds surrounding the entire bay, the organisers were able to keep a clear view of the surroundings. No wonder they call these the ‘Super Cameras’.
Being a part of NDP 2015 was a wonderful experience and we are glad to have contributed to yet another successful and jubilant National Day Parade. Happy SG50 everyone!
STELOP was invited to be one of the founding members of LUX Photonics Consortium, alongside Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and six other research laboratories and companies. We plan to leverage on this consortium and through more advance research, improve the performance of our next generation EO products.

A snap shot taken at our hotshot corner. Imagine the interesting things that technology can do!
At CommunicAsia 2014 this year we showcased our latest generation of IFSS2 (ver 1.2) incorporating the latest technology of ‘facial recognition’ to advance automation for non-intrusive Health/Fever Screening. This totally removes the need to ‘man’ our IFSS2 system as fever casualties are automatically identified and relevant care-givers are alerted. This allows organisations to save on manpower and still keep vigilance on virus spread. Integrating ‘facial recognition’ into IFSS2 enables our system to now provide additional Non-Intrusive Mass Security Screening as unregistered trespassers are automatically ‘red flagged’ for further security intervention.
We like to thank all our customers, partners and friends for showing interest at our applications and products at the ST Electronics booth and for having fun with us at our ‘hotshot corner’. Do remember to get your thermal picture taken at our next event.
