On 1st July 2016, Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and STELOP proudly received the prestigious IES-SG50 Award from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for our Infrared Fever Screening System (IFSS).
During the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in March 2003, DSTA and STELOP Engineers worked tirelessly together to develop our award winning product. Developing IFSS involves multidisciplinary understanding of several fields such as electro-optics, applied statistics and human physiology. Developing such a complex product within a tight timeline, was a great achievement for both DSTA and STELOP. Designed to detect persons with suspected fever in a non-intrusive manner, till date IFSS has been used globally to screen travelers who may be suspected of infectious diseases such as H1N1 and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
Organized by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES), Engineering Feats @ IES-SG50 is a national competition which aims to recognize the top 50 engineering achievements across the various fields of engineering deemed to have made the greatest economic, infrastructural or societal impact to Singapore. The selection was based on the highest number of votes received from the public out of 113 shortlisted projects and winners were recognized at the IES Golden Jubilee Dinner held at Ritz Carlton Millenia Hotel.
